The students at St. Joseph School for the Deaf basically come from southwest Sri Lanka, an area with Colombo at its center. Most of them have been coming to the school since they were two or three years of age. The school provides a very good education and program of formation.

Younger students There are about 210 students at St. Joseph School for the Deaf. Here a group pose for a photo before heading to the first class after the morning assembly.

Group of older girls A group of the older girls between classes. The older students pass on Deaf Culture to the younger students, slowly forming a Deaf community throughout the island.

After school play time It's not all uniforms. After school in the afternoons there is time for work and play around the campus.

Boys during recess period The boys tend to gather on the edge of the sports field in their free time. Their hostel is on the far edge of the field.

Goodbye celebration for Fr Charlie On his last night in Sri Lanka, the girls boarding at the school asked him to come to their rec room and presented him with their handmade farewell cards.
